(Feb 2012) What is exciting Melrose these days in their ministry?
Our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. In 2011 we installed two high efficiency boilers that will significantly reduce our fuel consumption, we installed solar panels on our roof, generating “green energy”, changed all our light bulbs to energy efficient ones, and are identifying easy “fixes” around the building that will continue to reduce our energy consumption.
What are some of the present mission particulars?
We are very active in supporting Wesley Urban Ministries, have an active family ministry and we just hired a part-time Children and Youth Program Coordinator ministering with the 30+ children and youth in the congregation, have a monthly concert series (Acoustic Blend Cafe) featuring Hamilton and area musicians, and participate in various community activities/events.
In what concerns would you like other Conference churches to share with you in prayer?
We are a smaller congregation (around 80-100 in worship) in a very large cathedral-style building. We have wonderful members who do a lot, but like most churches, we need to keep up our energy and enthusiasm for doing God’s work in our surrounding community and world. We welcomed 9 youth as members by confirmation in 2011 and we are concerned in keeping these youth members engaged in the ministry of Melrose.
